OMG Potty Training Success!

So.......for those who don't know, we have been "working" with Roman on his potty training. I am not one to rush the issue......I know very well that my kids will not start kindergarten wearing diapers, so I take the cues from them when to start potty training.

Kailey was my first and EASIEST. I think because I was so young, someone upstairs had a little mercy on me LOL. I simply forgot to take off the little Elmo panties that my mom had gotten her. We got home late that night and she was already asleep, so I just laid her to bed and hit the hay myself. Upon waking in the morning, I panicked just knowing I would walk into a soaked toddler and bed. Nope. She was dry as a bone! I put her on the potty and that was that. I was amazed and KNEW any children after her would NOT be so easy!

That brings me to my dear Roman........he initially found interest in the potty around 6 months ago I believe. He took to peeing on his little potty really well. Now he wasn't fond of the pee guard that comes with the potty for use by the little boys......we quickly ditched that and Roman developed an.......ummmm.......interesting technique to insure his pee made it into the potty and not all over the floor. He would (I say would, he is still doing it LOL) sit on the potty and lean ALL the way forward with his hands on the floor in front of him for support I guess *snicker*

After a couple of weeks, Roman was a peeing on the potty pro. He would pee on his potty ALL day long on his own......I never had to ask him if he needed to go or anything. He would even drop what he was doing upstairs to run down the steps and pee in his potty! Amazing, I know. BUT.......there's always a 'but' isn't there?........Roman had to be to be completely bottomless to do this. If he was in a diaper, pull up or underwear - forget it - he'd pee on them. *sigh* So I was faced with a kid who would go pee on the potty all day, but ran around naked LOL. What can you do, right? He has been a streaker almost everyday since HA!

A few weeks into the nude peeing *snicker*.....Roman realized the urge to poop. So he would be running around nude and promptly run up to me BEGGING for a diaper. He knew poop belonged in the diaper.....smart kid.....but NO, mommy now says poop goes in the potty?! This was too much for him LOL. He was having no part in *gasp* pooping in the potty! So every time he was running naked and needed to poop, we would succumb to putting a diaper on his to do his dirty business *sigh*

So basically this boy KNEW what was going on with his body. Obviously he recognized and acted on the urge to pee. And we now knew he recognized the other urge since he would ALWAYS come beg for a diaper while dancing around holding his legs together.......we just had to get past that last hurdle. Pooping on the potty!

Well folks......it FINALLY happened! I almost hate to blog about it and totally jinx myself LOL, but I'm so stinking PROUD! Bob and I decided not to cave today......we just kept directing him to his potty. He would whine and cry and I simply said,

"OK Roman, then go sit on your potty and poop!"

He quickly came back with, "But I don't want to poop on the potty mom?".........

I then resorted to bribery........"Roman, when you poop on the potty you will get a Thomas the Train sticker!"

"Mom I peed on the potty, come see!!"

"Great job buddy!" *high 5*

"I want a Thomas sticker mom"

"No Roman, only if you POOP on the potty......you get hugs and high 5's for pee on the potty."

Have I lost those of you without children yet? LMAO

So after several episodes like this throughout the afternoon, Roman FINALLY gave up the good fight and pooped on his potty!!

An exciting day here in this house........so we have been peeing on the potty.....and now he's pooped on the potty.......now we have to get him used to wearing underwear AND tackle doing all this business on the BIG potty *sigh*

Maybe.......just maybe I will get him trained so I won't have 2 in diapers come May LOL
