Story of the 40lb toddler....

Well this week has been a bit 'boring'. The most excitement I have had is going shopping with my soon to be 3 year old yesterday. He is the only one who loves to go shopping with mommy. He's my little buddy :D
Usually it's a good time, just me and him. He cracks me up with the things he says and does while we are out and about. He is perfecting his manly duty of being a backseat driver by yelling 'THIS WAY" or "NO MOM THAT WAY" from his carseat in the back as I make a turn. Or he's yelling at me for his headphones (for the DVD player).....his juice.....his book......his blankie.......while I'm driving of course. Not to mention the demands on occasion for a new DVD to be put in NOW.......haha

Typically all of this I take in stride......just the normal abuse all of us mothers take from our toddlers. Well actually I'm about to complain.....not about that stuff though. My boy is HEAVY!!! Roman tips the scales at about 40lbs at this point. Not *that* big by the AAP or anything.....but for a big pregnant lady like me? WHOA!

Yesterday -
1. Load 40lb toddler into the van and carseat.
2. Stop #1 - our pizza shop to get mail - unload 40lb toddler

7. Load 40lb toddler into a shopping cart at Toys-R-Us
8. Unload 40lb toddler from shopping cart
9. Load 40lb toddler into the van and carseat
10. Stop #4 - JCPenney - again with the baby things - unload 40lb toddler
11. Load 40lb toddler into the van and carseat
12. Stop #5 - Walmart - groceries - unload 40lb toddler
13. Load 40lb toddler into a shopping cart at Walmart
14. Unload 40lb toddler from shopping cart
15. Load 40lb toddler into the van and carseat
16. Stop #6 - Famous Footwear looking for toddler boy shoes - unload 40lb toddler
17. Load 40lb toddler into the van and carseat
18. Toddler falls asleep in the van on the way home
19. Mom parks in the garage and makes daddy carry in the 40lb toddler

Needless to say I won't be doing that kind of shopping with Roman again until I have this baby!

Now.......I know most of you reading are saying to yourself, "This woman is nuts. Why the hell isn't that boy getting himself in and out of his own carseat?".......in a perfect world, yeah he would be! I'm not that babying mom you see getting raked over the coals each week on SuperNanny. My boy tries to get himself taken care of......but the logistics of this endeavor are just too much for this almost 3 year old.

#1. He isn't the tallest kid on the block. So him getting into the van alone is a task in which he uses all hands and knees and feet.
#2. It's February in Pennsylvania.......there is snow, mud and muck all over the place. My boy is a bit on the neat side and can't stand to get his hands dirty.......so he doesn't really want to touch the bottom of the van to grab hold and climb in....gawd I don't blame him
#3. There isn't much space between his big carseat and the back of the passenger seat in the van. Yeah, my van is roomy......but take into account also that because of #2 my boy is wearing a big cumbersome winter coat. So this adds to the madness
#4. Again, he's not a tall kid LOL and for him to hoist himself into that big carseat would be a tall order for him to fill.......especially while wearing that winter coat LOL

So looks like I'll be heaving this 40lb toddler for at least the remainder of the winter.......or until he grows another couple inches!

Even though my back is still sore, we had a nice outing together. I love spending time with my kids one on one.......it's something I hope to continue even after this lil one comes into the mix.

A little update on my nephew Owen: He is doing fantastic! The only thing he is connected to now is the feeding tube. But he is sucking the preemie pacifier like a champ, so they hope to get him to take a bottle this week. If he stays on this track he should be able to go home next week! I get to see the lil squirt Monday since I'll be helping my niece that day (since she had a c-section she can't drive or anything for awhile and her hubby is saving his time off for when the baby comes home). I can't wait to see him again!

I hope everyone is having a great week so far, I don't know about you.....but again I can't wait for the weekend!

PS: Wish me luck tomorrow.....I'm going to go ahead and take my glucose tolerance test tomorrow morning :\ I didn't pass the 1 hour with Roman, so had to take the 3 hour and passed. I'm hoping I pass the first time this go LOL

Have a good one all and talk to you later!
