Well I had my 32 week prenatal appointment yesterday. I meant to blog this last night, but I rounded out my day with picking up Kailey from play practice after school and then whisking off to volunteer at my church bingo. Needless to say I was quite exhausted when I got home!
All is well on the pregnancy front. My blood pressure was good. I gained a pound, so I've officially gained 6lbs with this pregnancy. I'm totally not complaining LOL
I got yet another ultrasound to check the baby's size......."we" have been measuring on the large size for a couple months now. My belly is measuring more along the lines of being 34 weeks pregnant and most of that they say is because I have some extra amniotic fluid. Nothing I have any control of. Just one of those things I guess. The doctor said that women who have some extra amnio fluid and a larger baby are likely to have Gestational Diabetes....which I don't have, thank goodness. If I had taken my test for that earlier, he'd be making me do it again YUCK!
But since it's only been 3 weeks since I tested and passed with flying colors, I am escaping that 3 hour torture!
But alas, according to my ultrasound yesterday, this boy is weighing in at about 5pounds 7ounces. That is great! BUT ummmm I still have 8 WEEKS left to be pregnant?!?!
Let's do a little math kids........at 28 weeks I had my last ultrasound and they guessed the baby weighed 3pounds 8ounces...........so he has put on 2 POUNDS in a MONTH. Now, I have 2 months left of baking this babe.....he could be *GASP* OVER 9 POUNDS?! *grabs crotch in pain*
Now I *know* that a 9 pound baby isn't *that* big.....well it is, considering an average baby is like 7 and a half pounds. But hey women have been known to give birth to babies weighing close to 12 (yes TWELVE) pounds......
NOT THIS WOMAN! Both of my kids were 7lbs 5ozs and 7lbs 6ozs respectively. I had a rough time delivering them! Lots of pushing and then I needed additional medical help with use of a vacuum thing put on their little heads to help pull them out.......so the prospect of having a 9 pound baby scares me to death. Mostly because I don't want to go through hours of labor and pushing only to end up in the operating room having a C-section.....which I would describe as a phobia of mine, the whole being cut on thing *shudder*
Thankfully I have a FANTASTIC doctor. And I point blank asked him if he thought I could handle giving birth to a large baby (figured if anyone would know he would since he has, for lack of better terms, "seen me in action")......he agrees with me, don't think it would/could happen.
So here is our game plan:
1. Keep an eye on the size of the baby with another ultrasound at the end of the month (I'll be 36 weeks)
2. Opt to have an amniocentesis (the whole needle in the belly to draw amniotic fluid from my womb) in order to test the baby's lung maturity.
3. Depending on the baby's estimated size, we will schedule an induction most likely the first or second week of May.......when I'm about 37 1/2 or 38 weeks along.
4. Wait it out and get induced at 39 weeks (when I was induced with Roman).
So as of right now I don't have a CLUE when I'm having this kid! LOL All I know is that it WILL happen in May........
Sorry I haven't blogged in a while, but I've been a little busy and preoccupied. Everyone here is healthy now (thank goodness) and Kailey started soccer. No rest for the weary, eh?
I'll try to do better, and will be back later tonight to check into this tagging thing that my buddy Rachel has so graciously roped me into LOL
I say later for now & hope your having a great day!
